APPLE CIDER EVERYTHING!  I think apple cider was a great addition to this recipe because barbecue sauce is sweet, tangy, and sometimes spicy.  Therefore, the flavors all together taste great!  And, of course, it is so very appropriate for fall!

RECIPE: (12 drumsticks)

there are two parts to this recipe: a marinade and a glaze!

for the marinade:

  • 1/2 cup barbecue sauce – whichever brand you prefer
  • 1/2 cup apple cider
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • salt & pepper to taste


  • place all the chicken drumsticks in a big freezer bag
  • pour marinade into the bag and let sit in the fridge for 1-2 hours or overnight

for the glaze:

  • 1/2 cup apple cider
  • 2 tablespoons barbecue sauce
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar


  • place everything into a small sauce pan
  • heat until it boils then lower heat to make a steady simmer
  • reduce the liquid by about half
  • once the liquid can coat the back of a spoon, remove from heat – the glaze will thicken once it cools slightly

for the chicken:

  • 12 skinless chicken drumsticks


  • take chicken out of the marinade
  • cook on the grill with high heat for about 20-25 minutes, flipping halfway through
  • remove from grill and let chicken sit for about 10 minutes
  • before serving, brush the glaze over each chicken drumstick
  • garnish with fresh parsley
