I just got back from Portage Lake, Maine!! This was the third year in a row that I got to visit. My boyfriend’s (Josh) Grandmom has a house on Portage Lake, so we got to stay there for the week. This year, the weather was not as good as past years, but it didn’t stop us from doing most of the things we wanted to do! We didn’t get to make as many fires at night, but that’s only because the wood was all wet. This year, Josh’s parents came with us.. and, of course, their new puppy, Razor!
We brought inflatable kayaks, which was really awesome. We used them almost every day. We went fishing in the lake and also just cruised around. Josh and I ended up seeing an eagle up close! The eagle lives in a tree across the lake. Every so often, we would see it flying around and dipping into the lake for some fish to eat! It was really cool. We found the tree it lived in and kayaked up close! We watched it take off. We even heard the ‘swooshing’ sound of it’s wings – that’s how close we were!
We all climbed Mount Haystack again this year – me, Josh, his parents and aunt and uncle. It was just as awesome as I remembered! It was a steeper climb than I remembered though… haha! It was a great workout and getting to the top was so worth it. The view was amazing. We also got to shoot some guns, which I actually really like to do now!
Every night, we took turns cooking dinner. I chose pulled chicken tacos! I think tacos are great to cook when there’s a larger crowd to cook for. Everyone can make their own taco how they like it. We also went to dinner one night to a restaurant we went to last year as well. I suggested we go there again because it was delicious! I got the mussels this time. They were spicy, coconut-y, and basil-y. A delicious combination that I may try to replicate in one of my recipes.
It was a great vacation to end summer vacation! School starts next week, so hopefully I can bang out some recipes before then!! YAY! Here are some pictures from the trip!
