caramel apples.

caramel apples are one of my favorite fall treats!  i can literally drink caramel sauce because i love it so much.  caramel paired with a crisp, juicy, tart apple is the key to happiness 🙂 . i decided to make three flavors: s’mores, mini chocolate chips with white and dark chocolate drizzle, and salty peanut pretzel with dark chocolate drizzle.

RECIPE

for the caramel sauce (coats about 6-7 small/medium sized apples):

3/4 cup brown sugar

1/4 cup heavy cream

1 stick butter

place everything in a medium sized sauce pan and cook on medium high heat

the sauce will bubble and turn a dark caramel color, make sure to keep stirring, watch constantly and don’t walk away from the stove!  it can burn very easily

cook for about 5-8 minutes depending on the consistency you want

for coating apples, you don’t want it to be too thin, but also not too thick so it can coat the apples

for the apples:

make sure that you wash and scrub your apples with hot water, melting any wax off

to make sure that your caramel sticks, sanding the outside of the apple with sand paper will help

also, making the apples super cold before coating will help the caramel set quickly

after coating the apples, make sure to twist the apple after coating it to make sure the caramel is even on the surface of the apples

dip in any toppings that you want and put them in the freezer right away so the toppings don’t weight the caramel down!

once the caramel and toppings are set, you may enjoy at your leisure! 🙂
